Traditional Maltese sweets for Lent and Easter

Image
Easter’s almost here and since days look like have become just numbers I better look for my family’s figolli’s and Kwarezimal recipes which I will share with you. Today I went to buy the ingredients and I will prepare them tomorrow since today I promised not to have any sweets and second reason is no sugars since I’m back on the low-carb diet. I usually prepare the figollis first since they take most preparations to make whereas the kwarezimal, take much less time to do them. This year like the last three I will also be preparing the chocolate eggs as well. So let’s start from the figolli and for the foreigners who pass by my blog, Figolli are two pastries sandwich filled with pure almond filling cut out to represent symbolic figures, then covered with icing or my favourite decoration melted chocolate preferably the fondente type the higher to cocoa the better. I bought the metal shapes around ten years ago but one can easily use a cardboard shape but I would like to recommend a large

ready for take off

Henry Ford's dream is one step closer to being appreciated. John Bakker has put together a management team, and has found some initial backing, to develop the first PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle). The PAL-V can reach speeds of up to 200km/h on land and in the air. So if traffic is congested, fly, if the weather doesn't allow flying, drive. With the very short take off and vertical landing (VSTOVL) this car/bike/gyrocopter should work fine in city areas as well as rural (roads are luxury) areas. Prices are not known, but should be comparable to an executive saloon. The price one pay is great, because it’s a further step to have more precious, but remember that this also means one less excuse for making late for work!!! For more details check the official site: http://www.pal-v.com/ Press Release Personal Air and Land Vehicle After many years of pioneering with well-known parties as the Dutch Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) to create a flying and driving vehicle John

Mosta Dome

Image
The following text was nicked without permission from the official tourism site of Malta, Gozo and Comino (visitmalta.com) and I am very disappointed that in the site with should be promoting so much our country one only finds just these couple of line to describe such a magnificent temple and such beautiful architecture...I would like to excuse again myself about the poor quality of the pictures but again my sony ericsson came to the rescue...enjoy and if you are Maltese, be proud and shame to the tourism board again..I will try to take some further pictures some other times because these are not enough... Here are the couple of miserable lines I was talking about... " Built in 1860 over another church that was built in 1614, the church of St. Mary is the Parish ch urch of Mosta. The interior of the church is quite impressive with its circular shape and clear interior. The awesome dome is the fourth largest in the world and famous due to the incident that took place during WWII

saved by the bell

Now that the plants in my house have gave me an ultimatum and with that came the threat that they will not be providing any oxygen after today and all my soft furnishing were planning a group suicide and reading the book how to leave a mark to society as you die, I had to surrender to their intimidation, and I had to spend my last day on leave, spring-cleaning the house. If you promise to keep it just to yourself, I will whisper to you that the biggest motivation of turning my house upside down was that I made a promise to myself last Christmas that I look for the remote control of my home cinema which I have lost ages ago, but regretfully I have to report that this challenge or I like to call it an obstacle race in a maze the equivalent of a maltacom exchange box and the old marsa power station (or is it still pumping up smoke?)(I bet I have more wires and power plugs, it’s time to change to wireless but that do require next year’s good old money no problem’s Dalli’s budget) was to no

Vertigo-The Maltese entry for Eurovision 2007

Image
I don’t like to come out as someone who is trying to make fun of the Maltese productions far from it. We came along way since the old Xandir Malta stuff, that at that time we had no other choice to watch, unless you were a proud owner of an illegally owned piano keys, National vcr ,which found its way in Malta stored in a mini cooper second fuel tank (that’s the way I managed to get mine in 1982 (the first VHS tape I watched was Steven Spielberg’s ET) yet I had to fork out Lm500 for a Grundig colour TV and wasting hours if not days waiting in a queue in St.Luke’s road in front of the HQ of ix-Xandir because there was no way I could fit a 26inch TV in the car’s fuel tank. Anyhow, yes when it comes to photography and the visual side we improved big way but when it comes to story board and to what most important the way it is reproduced to the public, we have still a long way to go. I loved the way the video representation of the local song for the Eurovision contest was arranged because

Marinades

Image
Marinades 2 quick and very easy marinades, I really love doing because they make the meat tender and nice especially if it is grilled. They go very well with chicken, especially chicken breast. Ginger and yoghurt For 500 g of chicken you need 200ml plain yoghurt 1 spoon olive oil, extra virgin is better 2 spoons lemon juice According to taste Freshly grated ginger Freshly grated lemon peel Pinch of ground peperoncino or chili bits Tandori For 500 g of chicken you need 50ml plain yoghurt 3 spoon olive oil, extra virgin is better 2 spoons lemon juice According to taste Fresh crushed cumin Fresh crushed coriander Fresh crushed garlic Fresh crushed paprika Fresh crushed cinamon Freshly crushed cloves Salt Pepper In both cases mix all the ingridients together . Flatten the chicken breast with a meat tendiriser or a large spoon. Place the chicken in a plastic container and cov

The Malta Bus in Gozo

Image
During my last visit to our sister island, Gozo, this weekend, I happened to come across one of the finest example of our classic buses and I do think that it is a shame that this particular driver/owner, who is so proud of his vehicle and of the job that he does, (believe me it is not an easy one), is not supported by the central or Malta transport authority. I was really amazed by the state he kept his vehicle, the task is even more difficult after all it is a public vehicle running on the most popular run from Mgarr Harbour to Victoria. Just take a look at the pictures, I have taken. The paint shimmering, the chrome shining and the floors and seats spotlessly clean and keeping aside the stupid stickers attached to the front part wear the driver sits to drive, this bus looks like it has just came out from the coach builder. You have to keep in mind that this particular model is more 60 years old and even if the ride was not that comfortab le, it gives an unexplainable charm to the j
