Abela's Disturbing Betrayal of the People

Image
In a world where optics matter, the actions of Robert Abela, the Prime Minister of Malta, should raise serious concerns. Even in absolute monarchies, oil-rich nations, or corrupt regimes, his behavior this week would be seen as problematic. The bitter irony of Abela's hollow slogan, "Robert Abela Qalb in-Nies", was not lost on social media commenters. As he proudly displayed his so-called accomplishments, the truth behind his words became apparent. A 20-year-old worker, who had cast his vote for Robert Abela's government, tragically lost his life just ten minutes into his workday due to the callous disregard of the capitalists who employed him. These capitalists, closely connected to a government that protects their interests, freely exploit public land while neglecting the safety of their laborers. Despite calls for an inquiry to establish new rules and protect workers from life-threatening risks, the government remains indifferent. This betrayal cuts deep on multipl

Our country today! A TOTALLY FAILED country!

How the fuck did the head of the family, a worker, with one wage, manage to support a family with 4 children, go on vacation for a fucking month every year, fucking one month, send 4 children to university, without ever asking anyone for anything? In the 90’s, a worker earned around 500 euro, Petrol cost 50c a liter, the bus 20c, a newspaper 25c, and bread 30c.  Every family received a boatload of family allowances, almost equivalent to half the salary, for 4 children. They had a car that cost just over 1200 euro, less than 3 paychecks (today a piece of shit car costs around 18,000 euros, that is, 15 paychecks for a worker). An extraordinary life! With a worker's salary, he managed the monumental feat of: - Buying a house (without a guarantor) - Buying a house by the sea (without a guarantor) - Sending 4 children to school, to university,  - Marrying off 4 children (without anyone's help) - Buying 5 new cars, 1 motorcycle, and 4 bicycles  And there are some ASSHOLES who dare

Unprecedented Population Surge Sweeps Malta in 2023, Sparking Urgent Concerns

Image
Malta, the once picturesque Mediterranean island, has been swept up in an unprecedented population surge throughout 2023, with a staggering estimate of 542,051 residents calling the island home. This remarkable growth represents an astounding 4.2% increase compared to the previous year, raising urgent concerns among experts and policymakers. National data reveals that the surge was primarily driven by a substantial net migration, as thousands of individuals flocked to Malta in search of a better life. With the island at a demographic crossroads, the implications of this population boom are far-reaching and demand immediate attention. Population Dynamics and Age Distribution: The evolving demographic landscape of Malta is an area of particular interest, as the composition of its inhabitants undergoes a significant shift. Males now comprise nearly 53% of the total population, highlighting the changing gender dynamics. Meanwhile, minors under the age of 18 account for 15.1% of the populat

The Secrets She Keeps- Review

Image
Get ready to unravel the juicy secrets of the elite, dear readers! Settle in for a delightful six-part Australian tale that will have you hooked from the very first episode. "The Secrets She Keeps" is a guilty pleasure that combines the glitz and glamour of a wealthy cashmere-clad blogger with the envy-inducing life of a supermarket worker. Prepare for a collision of worlds like no other! Now, picture my wife, bless her soul—she's one of those telly-challenged creatures. Her mind is a nimble detective, always ten steps ahead, dissecting plots with lightning speed. The poor thing walked out of "The Sixth Sense" the moment she sniffed out Bruce Willis's coat wasn't going anywhere. And don't even get me started on "Gone Girl"—she was back home before the washing machine finished its spin cycle. Oh, the woes of an overactive mind! But me? Well, let's just say my brain resembles a bowl of wobbly pudding. I happily basked in the twists and tu

Threads, Meta's Twitter Rival, Surpasses 10 Million Users Shortly After Launch

Image
In a remarkable feat, Threads, the new social media app by Meta, attracted over 10 million users within just a few hours of its launch, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The app made its debut on the Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 2300 GMT on Wednesday. For now, Threads will run without ads, but its release in Europe has been postponed due to concerns regarding data privacy. Threads pose the most significant challenge yet to Twitter, which, despite its struggles, remains one of the world's largest social media platforms. While several potential competitors have emerged, none have managed to replace Twitter's prominence.  Zuckerberg expressed his enthusiasm for Threads on his official account, stating, "10 million sign-ups in seven hours." Notably, well-known celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Hugh Jackman, as well as media outlets like The Washington Post and The Economist, already had active accounts on the platform. Zuckerberg took a

EU Legislation Sparks Excitement for Messaging Upgrades on iPhone and Android

Image
Get ready for a potential messaging revolution! New EU legislation could transform the way our favorite smartphones operate, benefiting both iPhone and Android users alike. Apple, in particular, has been caught in a series of battles with the EU regarding proposed changes to rules surrounding technological devices. This has already led to the upcoming switch to USB-C, expected to feature on the iPhone 15 range later this year. Among the wide range of changes outlined, one particular aspect caught my attention: messaging standards. The EU report emphasizes that platforms offering messaging services should be able to interact with each other. This appears to be a response to Apple's reluctance to adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard, which has become common on Android phones. However, this legislation could go even further. It suggests that different messaging platforms should be able to communicate with each other, regardless of the recipient's choice o

Shedding Light on the Plight of Non-EU Workers: A Call for Change

Image
As a Maltese Citizen, I have a pressing issue that has weighed heavily on my heart: the plight of non-EU workers in our beloved country, Malta. We are living a disturbing reality that many of these individuals, hailing from developing countries, are enduring a life akin to modern-day slavery. It is a grievous situation that demands immediate attention, and yet our government has turned a blind eye to their suffering. I emphasize the fact that numerous third-country workers and migrants find themselves trapped in a state of "limbo." These brave individuals cannot return to their homelands due to various reasons, yet they are left without a promising future here in Malta. It is within this void that exploitation thrives, allowing the most vulnerable among us to become victims of a modern-day form of slavery. It is a heartbreaking reality that cannot be ignored. Statistics from employment agency Jobsplus reveal a disturbing truth. As of June 2022, over 50,591 third-country nati

Over the past three years, my father faced immense challenges and endured countless hardships due to his illness. His unwavering determination and positive outlook were a source of inspiration for our entire family, as well as for those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a loving husband, a devoted father, a doting grandfather, and a true friend to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. His warm smile, infectious laughte

In times of crisis, the true test of our values and social responsibilities emerges. Rising prices and inflation created additional challenges for families already struggling to make ends meet. Ghostbusters: Afterlife - A Spirited Nostalgia Trip

Image
In a delightful journey down memory lane, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" resurrects the beloved 80s original, capturing the hearts of fans from a bygone era. Helmed by Jason Reitman, who follows in the footsteps of his father, Ivan Reitman, the film inherits not only the familial connection but also a shared DNA with its iconic predecessor. With a mix of homage and creative borrowing, the story weaves together supernatural entities and key plot elements that pay tribute to the franchise's rich history, bolstered by an unmistakable Spielbergian touch. Setting the stage for a wave of nostalgia, Rob Simonsen's score, heavily influenced by the legendary John Williams, strikes a chord that resonates deep within the souls of viewers of a certain age. Adding to the film's allure is the casting of Finn Wolfhard, known for his role in the popular series "Stranger Things." His presence injects fresh energy into the narrative, connecting with a younger audience and brid
