Hbula Stirati...

Image
I’ve been meaning to post this blog long time ago, infect the day I received an invitation via email from Kevin Saliba (one of the poets) to mark the launch of a new poetry book called Hbula Stirati by 5 poets next Saturday the 21st of July in one of my favourite garden, the one I say is in San Maison but everyone says it is in Floriana. (Tal Milorda Garden) It could be that just like G’Mangia we are being influenced to erase these little suburbs from the books but anyhow that‘s a different story. If just like me you enjoy Maltese literature and in this case Maltese poetry with a little extra spice I recommend you check Hbula Stirati. And even better why not attend the launch and get hold of the book itself which should be available by next Monday. Who know maybe one day you would be reading my flyer advertising the launch of my book. It has been in the pipeline but I’m too lazy to do it...

Shrek The Third...is it kids stuff?

Image
I made yesterday a cinema night and it was funny how all films showing at my favourite complex were all sequels. Once a movie makes it big at the box office, the film makers tendency is to extract as much money as possible from the series or trilogy proposed. I was in a fairytale mood (if one can figure out what that is) so my choice and my date’s fell on Shrek the Tired, sorry I meant the Third. I settled in my seat, enjoying the good sight lines and the excited anticipation of the children, when a little voice behind me said, “Have to turn off the mobile now, it's gonna start" to the guy next to her, who being my age was probably her dad.”The child, a girl, couldn’t have been more than seven. Even in this era, seven is too early for biting wit. Then, as the movie began, I realized that this girl represents what DreamWorks Animation, the producer of this most lucrative of franchise animated features, envisions its audience to be. Tiny, but now too wise then our generation’s

Rih Isfel...

Image
Even if due to working late I was not able to attend the launch of Pierre J. Mejlak’s latest work of art, today I managed to get my hands on a signed edition of Rih Isfel from Merlin Library and I found the book very intriguing and it kept me hooked till the last page and I had to keep on reading it to find out how it is going to end. I simply loved it especially since it is a twisted plot and I love twisted ends...I stop here it’s all yours to discover...do not miss it!

On my way…home

I don’t need to look back A new day is breaking I feel better and it’s so good this way I don’t mind where I get taken The road is calling Today is the dayI can see It took so long to realize I’m strong Not to compromise Now I see what I am What is holding me down Ill turn it around I finally see the dawn arriving I see beyond the road I’m driving Far away and left behind Its a new horizon and I’m awaken now Oh I see myself in a brand new way The sun is shining The clouds are breaking I can’t lose now, threes no game to play I can tell There’s no more time left to criticize I’ve seen what I could not recognize Everything in my life was leading me on But I can be strong I finally see the dawn arriving I see beyond the road I’m driving Far away and left behind

fifteen days...

Image
This marks the second week since the last fifteen day have been extremely stressful, extremely horrible and so out of control, and two make these days even more difficult to handle they were also prettily decorated with three bad news, which I was not expecting. Well most people say its life but what’s frightening me most is this gut feeling that there is some even worse bad news in the pipeline. Hope this time my feeling is not right but to be sincere I really doubt it... I'll do my best as always to look at the positive side of it and hopefully I'll succeed to make things look better...wish me luck and pray for me...

A Chest of Prestigious Chocolates...

One can easily recognise at least 5 Ferrari car keys, 2 Lamborghinis and a Bentley’s. Was it you who just removed these keys off your pocket on your way inside the home? Or is it the contents of your new girlfriend’s handbag that her father is running out of space in his garage so he decided to give her the cars? Or it could also be the showroom you have always dreamed of owning, the choice is all yours. As for me if you look a little closer you might notice that there is a bicycle antitheft lock which I might have left there by mistake...

it's finally here...the new Fiat 500

Image
Just the same way that children wait for the early hours of Christmas day to unpack the Christmas presents, some auto fanatics like me have waited a year for the 4th of July 2007 and this time not exactly to celebrate America’s Independence Day, but to be able to see the lavish party in Turin to mark the launch of one of the most cute yet chic cars the new fiat 500, exactly 60 years after the launch of the original model. I have never been an avid Italian car fan but due to the fantastic marketing campaign which was forced upon on us, you can’t help to see and look forward to what it is all about and to be sincere the marketing team managed to create the same kind of expectation as if they are going to launch something more fast or expensive like a Ferrari, Lamborghini Bugatti or some other exotic cars. . It may be a myth, but this is how the story goes: back in 1969, Fiat's cute 500 city car was all set to star in The Italian Job movie when some bright spark had the idea to use Mi

Runaway girl...

A father passing by his teenage daughter's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was neat and tidy. Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the centre of the pillow. It was addressed "Dad". With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands :- Dear Dad, It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you, but I'm leaving home. I had to elope with my new boyfriend Randy because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I've been finding real passion with Randy and he is so nice to me. I know when you meet him you'll like him too - even with all his piercing, tattoos, and motorcycle clothes. But it's not only the passion Dad, I'm pregnant and Randy said that he wants me to have the kid and that we can be very happy together. Even though Randy is much older than me (anyway, 42 isn't so old these days is it?), and has no money, really these things shouldn

Fried Eggs for Brekkie

Image
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. "Careful," he said, "CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my GOD! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful . CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!" The wife stared at him. "What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?" The husband calmly replied, "I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving . . ."

Brian Adams Live in Malta with a pre show from Winter Moods

Image
For one night only, the 29th of June 2007, the fans of good old rock music were treated to an evening like no other, an evening that sent shock waves throughout the crowded streets as Brian Adams well and truly rocked our little island. This was the first and hope, not the only Maltese date for Brian, whom at the end of the concert he also confirmed that the rumours that he has some Maltese blood rushing thru his veins, were for real. He certainly didn’t disappoint his fans in his more then two hour long set at Luxol’s Football ground in St. Andrews. The concert, in aid of the ‘Find Madeleine’ campaign was a cavalcade of rock. Opening for Brian was the veteran Maltes band Winter Moods, a band with some varied and interesting tunes, which were toe-tapping pieces of music brilliance. This little known abroad band, who have four fantastic albums and two EPs under their belt (my favourite being Morning Ale) and have a great follow up in Malta, have a special way to lift the crowds spirit a

Waves of freedom...

Image
Don't know why I'm still afraid If you weren't real I would make you up now I wish that I could follow through Could this be true And deep As the sea On Waves of freedom But right now Everything I want is wrong, And right now All my dreams are waking up, And right now I wish I could follow you On the waves Of freedom, Where no one lives. Remember when we first met And everything is a bet a game You would call; I'd call you back And then I'd leave A text But right now Everything is turning blue, And right now The sun is trying to kill the moon, And right now I wish I could follow you To the shores Of freedom, Where no one lives We're made out of blood and rust Looking for someone to trust Without A fight Could it be that is too soon You're the diamonds and the moon That lights Up my night Eaglet Run away tonight Eaglet, Eaglet, Run away Run away tonight Got no much time to kill Like the pigeons on my window sill We hardly hang around Ever since I've bee

FANTASTIC WEEKEND . . .

Image
A young man walked into a jeweler's shop late one Friday, with a beautiful young lady on his side. "I'm looking for a special ring for my girlfriend" he said. The jeweler looks through his stock, and takes out an outstanding ring priced at £4500. "I don't think you understand ... I want something very unique", he said. The jeweler went and fetched his special stock from the safe. "Here's one stunning ring at £33000." The girls' eyes sparkled, and the young man said that he would take it. "How are you paying?" "I'll pay by cheque, but of course you would want to make sure that everything is in order, so I'll write a cheque and you can phone the bank on Monday and I'll collect the ring on Monday afternoon". Monday morning a very irate jeweler phones the man. "You lied there's no money in that account." "I know, but can you imagine what a FANTASTIC WEEKEND I had ?"
