The Oldest HMV Sign in the World Smashed by Concrete Pump in Valletta: A Furious Outcry
I am absolutely livid at the complete lack of control and the fact that we are being run by a bunch of primitive, incompetent buffoons! The iconic HMV sign above the doorway of D’Amato Records, an invaluable piece of history since right after World War II, has been smashed to pieces overnight by a reckless construction crew in Valletta. This sign wasn't just a piece of plastic; it was a symbol of resilience and history, the oldest HMV sign in the world, proudly displayed for decades.

Anthony D’Amato, co-owner of D’Amato Records, is rightfully in shock. He found out about the destruction of the sign, which had adorned the shop since the post-war era, without so much as a word of apology from the responsible party. This is beyond disrespectful—it's infuriating. These moronic contractors couldn't even muster the decency to walk into the shop and apologize. It's as if we're living in a lawless jungle!
To make matters worse, the damage was done by a crane used for construction work on the opposite side of the road, carried out overnight with no regard for the historical significance of the area. D’Amato expressed his frustration over ongoing issues with the contractor, who sarcastically brushed off the damage with a snide comment about the sign’s value. This is not just negligence; it’s a blatant disregard for our cultural heritage.

The sign, made out of perspex, is now likely beyond repair, ripping a piece of Valletta’s identity away. Valletta has lost a part of its soul, and for what? Carelessness and stupidity. D’Amato hopes the authorities will step up to protect what little heritage we have left, but why should it come to this? Why is it so hard for these so-called professionals to act with even a shred of responsibility?
The incompetence doesn’t stop there. Just last month, a British-era telephone box was obliterated in seconds by a delivery truck. The company responsible at least had the decency to claim responsibility immediately, unlike these construction imbeciles who destroyed the HMV sign. The Culture Ministry promised to restore the telephone box, but who’s going to restore our faith in the people who are supposed to protect our heritage?
This isn’t just about a sign; it’s about respect, responsibility, and the preservation of our history. It’s time for some accountability and for those responsible to face the consequences of their actions. Enough is enough!
