Love is!

As you grow, you learn that happiness isn't found in grand gestures.

It's not the pursuit of it in your twenties when you battle the world like gladiators to emerge victorious.
Happiness isn't found in chasing after love as if it's all or nothing,
nor in the intense emotions that explode spectacularly.
It's not about scaling skyscrapers or constantly putting yourself to the test.
Growing up teaches you that happiness lies in the small yet precious things.
You learn that the aroma of morning coffee is a tiny ritual of joy,
that a few notes of a song or the colors of a heartwarming book are enough,
that the scents of a kitchen or the poetry of happiness painters suffice.
A smile from a stranger is special, but even more so from someone who makes your head spin and warms your heart.

You learn that happiness comes in gentle emotions,
in small bursts that slowly expand the heart.
Stars can move you, and the sun can brighten your eyes.
A field of sunflowers can light up your face,
the scent of spring can awaken you from winter's slumber,
and sitting under a tree reading can relax and free your mind.
Love is made of delicate sensations, of tiny sparks in the stomach,
of nearness even in distance, where time stretches and five minutes become precious, longer than many hours.
All it takes is closing your eyes, awakening your senses,
cooking in the kitchen, reading poetry, writing in a book, or looking at a photo
to transcend time and distance and be with all the people in your heart whom you cannot see.
Hearing a voice on the phone or receiving an unexpected message are fleeting moments of joy.
You learn to hold small yet precious dreams in your drawer and heart.
Holding a child in your arms is a delightful happiness.
The greatest gifts are those that speak to you and remind you of the people you cannot live without.
You realize there's happiness in the urgency to jot down your thoughts on paper,
and something bittersweetly happy in melancholy.
Despite your defenses, your desires, or your fate,
within every flying seagull lies a young heart ready to face its youth.
You learn how beautiful and grand simplicity truly is.
Yes, happiness resides within the heart, and for a while now, my heart has been called by your name...
