Brian Adams Live in Malta with a pre show from Winter Moods

Image
For one night only, the 29th of June 2007, the fans of good old rock music were treated to an evening like no other, an evening that sent shock waves throughout the crowded streets as Brian Adams well and truly rocked our little island. This was the first and hope, not the only Maltese date for Brian, whom at the end of the concert he also confirmed that the rumours that he has some Maltese blood rushing thru his veins, were for real. He certainly didn’t disappoint his fans in his more then two hour long set at Luxol’s Football ground in St. Andrews. The concert, in aid of the ‘Find Madeleine’ campaign was a cavalcade of rock. Opening for Brian was the veteran Maltes band Winter Moods, a band with some varied and interesting tunes, which were toe-tapping pieces of music brilliance. This little known abroad band, who have four fantastic albums and two EPs under their belt (my favourite being Morning Ale) and have a great follow up in Malta, have a special way to lift the crowds spirit a

Getting my baby ready for summer...

Image
This is one of my favourite ways to spend some of my free time. All alone in my garage, washing, polishing and buffing up my love! I had a couple of bikes and even if this one is gonna take me some more work to get her back to its formal beauty and shining glory, I still can’t help but look and stare at it and think to myself what a piece of striking metal Honda in USA, (Japanese design and engineering but build in Ohio) managed to create in the late eighties... and that is even when it is standing still, you have to ride it and feel the V4 engine tremble beneath you in a slow way when it’s idling and a weird kind of power and force whenever you stretch the rev counter and push it hard . It’s an unexplainable feeling as the wind embrace your face and plays with the little hair out of the helmet as you try to slice thru it... it is not just the destination but the trip to make it there...

How to bake a car: the amazing story behind Skoda's new TV ad

Image
Skoda brand has long been the butt of cruel motoring jokes - but an ingenious and in my opinion original lovely new advert for the new Fabia gives a new way to look at this marque. The 60-second commercial - which is reported to have cost up to £500,000 to make - shows a team of bakers, model makers and home economists as they set about creating an edible version of the car. 1. The first egg is cracked. Only another 179 to go. Plus 100kg of flour and 100kg of caster sugar 2. A huge vat of chocolate sauce, 30kg of almonds and 65kg of dried fruit make the 'crispy cake' mix for the car's bodywork 3. Now it's the turn of two bakers to make 448 Madeira 'brick cakes' to form the foundation of the car's chassis 4. With the precision of a Formula One team, the Skoda crew sculpt every crumbly cog and sticky spark plug of the engine 5. Cake bricks are layered with buttercream icing - a slightly bigger job than your average Victoria sponge 6. Next, the body work takes

A re-enactment of a traditional Maltese Wedding of the past

Image
The Culture Committee within St. Catherine's Musical Society of Zurrieq are extending an invitation to all Maltese and Foreigners to be their guests for a typical Maltese wedding of the past, which is being held in the picturesque narrow roads of Zurrieq on Sunday 20 th May, 2007. The activity will commence in Republic Square, which is the Main Square of Zurrieq, at 10.00am. There, everyone will accompany the bride and groom in their traditional wedding march through Carmel Street. Various installations of traditional Maltese workmanship and crafts will be exhibited on the way. All of this will be enjoyed along with the sound of live music and Maltese folklore singing. ( Ghana Malti.) The wedding ceremony will be held on the pave of St. Andrew's Chapel where it can be followed closely by the crowd. This Chapel was built in the same era, thus making a perfect venue for such an activity. A reception will be held after the wedding ceremony, in the most wonderful environment, uniqu

The Secretary

Image
During my lunch break I came across a February’s, TV guide, on the coffee table so I just went thru the pictures as I wasn’t interested what was being transmitted in the air at that time as it was well almost the end of March and you know on TV guides since there are a lot of listings, the editor usually only allows a couple of lines to describe the pick of the day one's eyes tend to fall on what I like to call Le Locandine. The pick of the day on one particular day was the movie ‘The Secretary’. Don’t tell what was it that mostly caught my eyes since there was only a small picture of a very naive girl in her 20's and the lines said that it is a romantic film with a twist between two mentally disturbed people. I don’t know if it was the twist or that the film speaks about disturbed people that tricked my mind but I remember something made me take note of the title to check if it was available from one of the DVD rental houses near where I live. When i gave up managing to find t
