WOW what a weekend...

Image
One of the reasons why I love the summer season in Malta (even if my favourite season remains winter) is that one is spoilt for choice when it comes to going out at night with the various activities that are being organized by the tourism ministry or by individual entertaining troupes. These weekend was one of those particular weeks were I had not to go to some particular activities for the reason that or I was too tired or the tickets were sold out a few days sometimes hours after they open at the booking office. Even if it is not my usual cup of tea to listen to pop music especially when you keep listening to it 24/7 on whatever radio channel you tune to, I had to go to Fosos Square last Thursday to be in what has been described as the event of the year, that is the Isle of MTV. One of my favourite Maltese bands, Winter Moods marked the start of the show and from the bottom of my heart I wish that some big record company owner notice how hard working versatile, and ambitious this ban

Il- Gnien tal-Milorda San Maison...u il-ktieb Hbula Stirati

Image
The following are some pictures again taken with my mobile phone so please excuse the lack of quality of the Milorda Gardens in San Maison. This is one of my favourite gardens and in my opinion the best place to be in on a summer afternoon or even winter... I was there yesterday to attend to the launch of the new poetry book Hbula Stirati, which I am still reading and so far it has left me without adjectives to describe it, it is really good poetry book and it’s great that the authors have gut to publish similar books and hope they keep them coming. I also had the opportunity to meet Kevin Saliba one of the author which I love what he writes and I tend to check his blog because he always manage to bring back the good memories of the past Sa Maison Gardens The Sa Maison Garden is a small, pretty garden mostly known for its military heritage. The garden is also known as ‘il-Gnien tal-Milorda’ (Her Ladyship's Garden) in memory of Lady Julia Lockwood, who resided the

Brian Adams Live in Malta with a pre show from Winter Moods

Image
For one night only, the 29th of June 2007, the fans of good old rock music were treated to an evening like no other, an evening that sent shock waves throughout the crowded streets as Brian Adams well and truly rocked our little island. This was the first and hope, not the only Maltese date for Brian, whom at the end of the concert he also confirmed that the rumours that he has some Maltese blood rushing thru his veins, were for real. He certainly didn’t disappoint his fans in his more then two hour long set at Luxol’s Football ground in St. Andrews. The concert, in aid of the ‘Find Madeleine’ campaign was a cavalcade of rock. Opening for Brian was the veteran Maltes band Winter Moods, a band with some varied and interesting tunes, which were toe-tapping pieces of music brilliance. This little known abroad band, who have four fantastic albums and two EPs under their belt (my favourite being Morning Ale) and have a great follow up in Malta, have a special way to lift the crowds spirit a

Malta Stuprata- Raping Malta

The following is a poem in Maltese by an unknown author. It was sent via email and is meant to create awareness of the way the little green areas and the beautiful beaches in Malta are being exploited because some bastards have enough money to buy whatever they like even enough to buy the malta planning and environment authority and then spoil such a beauty by building concrete monsters to make more money...this time it is the Ramla il-Hamra the victim of such atrocity. Ramla Bay in Gozo is another one of my favourite bays. I remember fondly the days I spent there when I was a small kid during our frequent trips to Gozo. Ramla Bay is located at the bottom of another rich and fertile valley on the northern side of the island of Gozo. The village of Xaghra, located on one of the hills of Gozo, overlooks this valley. The Bay can be reached from the village of Nadur, Gozo's largest village. Terraced farmers fields blanket the whole valley in a green carpet with the field-rock walls bu

Malta and the Maltese Islands (Spirit of Malta)

Image
If you write malta or the maltese islands in google or other search engine, you get 143,000 results of home pages which are related but most of them especially the official Tourism Site visitmalta is just boring. I came across a very well made site about my country and if you want to see what a jewel of a place we live in I recomend you check it out, especially the virtual tours. the site is www.maltavoyager.com if you don't have time for that or like what happened in my case I got spellbound (no not an eurovision song) and spent most of the afternoon checking out this particular site and have other things to do check out this video. Filmed and edited by Alexander Chorny (yes foriegners tend to appreciate more)between 02.05 to 08.05 and edited in just 2 hours (the night before he had to get his plane back home for vacation, and made especially to show Malta to his friends and parents back in Ukraine). It's called Spirit of Malta and it is just amazing both visually and even th

The following text was nicked without permission from the official tourism site of Malta, Gozo and Comino (visitmalta.com) and I am very disappointed that in the site with should be promoting so much our country one only finds just these couple of line to describe such a magnificent temple and such beautiful architecture...I would like to excuse again myself about the poor quality of the pictures but again my sony ericsson came to the rescue...enjoy and if you are Maltese, be proud and shame to the tourism board again..I will try to take some further pictures some other times because these are not enough... Here are the couple of miserable lines I was talking about... " Built in 1860 over another church that was built in 1614, the church of St. Mary is the Parish ch urch of Mosta. The interior of the church is quite impressive with its circular shape and clear interior. The awesome dome is the fourth largest in the world and famous due to the incident that took place during WWII
